CITYZEN WORKSHOP NO. 5 AT HPE (GE)

The fifth CityZen workshop was held at the Hewlett Packard Enterprise European Innovation Centre in Meyrin, with the municipality administration as a guest to welcome us to their region. We once again enjoyed fruitful discussions between members, HPE and the town representatives. We would like to thank our hosts and let them know that we are already internally working on the issues they proposed, with one in particular showing excellent progress – more to follow soon.

ATTENDING SUISSE PUBLIC (BE)

Various members of CityZen had stands at the Suisse Public trade fair, staying in touch with the needs and issues of the public sector. It should be noted that Wavetrophy was a trade fair partner and passed through it on the Friday, and that the only electric car on offer was plugged in to the Smart Shuffle on the Schreder stand! CityZen is breaking down technology silos.

ATTENDING WAVETROPHY NO. 7

One of CityZen’s members was involved in setting up the section of the 7th Wavetrophy rally in French-speaking Switzerland, and completed the course (on an e-bike!). This year the rally grew to a beautiful scale by completing The Grand Tour of Switzerland in eight days with over a hundred 100% electric vehicles, crossing more than fifty Swiss towns along a route some 1600 km long. Electric mobility is firmly up and coming, and CityZen has perfectly incorporated this technological breakthrough into its knowledge and skills to allow it to help build the cities of the present and the future. With you.

PRESENTATION FOR IOT WEEK (GE)

For this Swiss edition of the European IoT Week, one CityZen member had an opportunity to present a success story built on internal collaborations with association members: ‘Delivering energy savings with smart street lighting, a CityZen success’.

This is because the co-creation with communities, regions, infrastructure and cantons which ‘smart’ projects require is achieved via fruitful collaborations between the members themselves as a way of putting the different pieces of the puzzle together. Smarter Together.

PRESENTATION AT FMS TRADE FAIR (GE)

For the first ever FMS trade fair, one CityZen member was invited to give a presentation on facility management for communities. They chose to present ‘Smart cities and the digitisation of regions’, drawing on the experience of the CityZen Park (and others) for discussion and debate. CityZen’s expertise, shared with all the members of the association, is beginning to gain a reputation. Smarter Together.

ATTENDING SMARTSUISSE (BS)

The first ever Smart Suisse trade fair was a success, with CityZen of course present with its stand and its members. We enjoyed a wide variety of meetings and encounters with smart city assemblers and manufacturers as well as communities, cantons and key players from the public service sector. Our talks helped us to continue developing and improving awareness of the association.

INAUGURATION OF CITYZEN PARK (VD)

From theory to practice: CityZen now has its very own demonstration park! It presents various technologies and skills to illustrate our complementary areas of expertise. And this is just the beginning: technologies are still being developed, and the agility of our association means that our CityZen Park will continue to constantly evolve and improve.

More than 100 community stakeholders attended our two inauguration days at the Schreder site in Carrouge, enjoying a friendly and relaxed atmosphere that facilitated an exchange of ideas. Each day was rounded off with a cocktail reception, appreciated by all as an opportunity to boost interactions and mutual understanding of issues. There can be no smart cities without smart people, or without mutual trust.

CITYZEN WORKSHOP NO. 4 AT SCHREDER (VD)

CityZen workshops provide members with an opportunity to meet and find out more about each other, in order to break down silos between the various trades on which smart cities are built. Smarter Together. At its fourth workshop, the association was made official by validation of its new statutes. In order to take the needs and expectations of communities fully into account, from now on every workshop will invite one or more municipalities for a brainstorming and discussion session. We were delighted to welcome the town of Pully to the Schreder site, which contains the beginnings of the CityZen Park, and enjoyed much fruitful discussion.

ATTENDING ECOVILLAGES (VD)

The issues experienced by a village which is also in a mountainous region are different to those in a town. Each region needs its own ‘smart city’, ‘smart village’, ‘smart ski resort’ or ‘smart region’. CityZen is well aware of this, which is why we attended the annual Ecovillages forum (Diablerets, VD) – which this year focused on digitisation – with a stand staffed by various members. We are also well aware that every municipality, region and infrastructure has its own issues, and we are developing the skills and agility required to adapt to them.
